Who is Wizzy?
Everyone knows who Srulik is, a caricature of the Sabra Israeli with the shorts, the biblical sandals
and “tembel” hat that caricaturist Dosh created. Srulik was in the Ma’ariv newspaper every day for
decades, he was enlisted to the army and became a symbol. In nineteen sixty seven the WIZO
organization asked Dosh to think up a caricature of an Israeli woman to represent Israel and WIZO
around the world. Dosh mulled over how this caricature should look like, and eventually thought of
Wizzy, an Israeli with international chic. So why don’t we know her? WIZO used Wizzy, but
stopped after a few years, while Srulik continued to grow up. And if you believe that Srulik is still
alive, maybe fighting terrorism, believe that Wizzy is also fighting for Israel around the world as
well.
