The Hasidic Synagogue
In the Baka neighborhood, on Yael Street there is a Hasidic synagogue. The
synagogue was named after the Baal Shem Tov and is a very old and ancient
synagogue. In the past it was a large Arab house. A typical Arab house is
characterized by its unique architecture.
How could one identify an Arab home?
In Arab homes there is a double door with a window on each side. In
addition, there are many decorations on the door and windows.
A very old house stands next to the synagogue and is one of the first houses
in Baka. The courtyard of the old house is shared by the Hasidic, Ashkenazi
and Sephardi synagogues next to it.
During the holidays, when Jews from all over the world came to pray in
the synagogue, the residents of the old house were forced to vacate their
homes and find another place to live, so that the many worshipers in the
synagogue would have a place to sleep in!
