Katsav is Released
Prisoner number one four one eight nine eight nine, Moshe Katsav,
returned to his home today after five years and two weeks in prison.
Outside his house in Kiryat Malachi, several dozen friends waited for
Katsav. There were (those) who said that this is a Hanukah miracle, no
less. The President’s release from prison, about two years before the end of
his sentenced incarceration, was made possible due to the decision of State
Attorney Shay Nitsan, not to appeal the parole board’s decision to shorten
his sentence. While Katsav’s family members, including his wife Gila and
brother Lior hurry to get to the gates of the Maasiyahu prison, inside the
prison prisoner Moshe Katsav gets (his) discharge form, meets the prison
warden for a final talk and then steps outside. From now on Moshe Katsav
will be a parolee. He’ll be under house arrest at night time, he’s not
allowed to go abroad, he’s committed to an intricate rehabilitation process.
If he’ll want to work, he’s not allowed to be in contact with women. On
April ninth two thousand eight, almost nine years ago, Moshe Katsav
arrived at the magistrate court in Jerusalem to sign the plea bargain, after
which he was supposed to return home as a free citizen. He changed his
mind last minute and refused to sign. On December twenty first, two
thousand sixteen, Moshe Katsav returns to his home, a parolee who’s lost
his entire world.
