The MeToo Campaign
With all due respect to A Handmaid’s Tale, Big Little Lies and the rest of
the Golden Globe winners, what we’re all going to remember from the
ceremony this year is the MeToo campaign that reached its peak. The
silent protest against sexual harassment in the Hollywood film industry
included black gowns for the women and a lapel pin for men with the
writing ‘Time’s Up’. On stage, the protest was at a higher volume
altogether. But Oprah Winfrey, who won an award for a lifetime
achievement at the ceremony, will be remembered more than all. The
powerful TV woman was worthy of the prize anyway, but this year it was
really the perfect casting. After the enthralling speech, CNN reported
tonight that Oprah is even seriously considering running for President of
the United States. And the person who witnessed all of this close up was
our Gal Gadot, who drew everyone’s attention. Hollywood stars asked to
take photos with her, paparazzi documented her during the commercial
break, and she was also the first to give out an award on stage at the
ceremony. And this night was just the beginning, now we’re headed
towards the biggest ceremony of the film industry on March fourth, the
Academy Awards.
