In One Minute
That moment, the moment when the flash flood hit Wadi Zafit, Adiel
Hasid quietly recalls, a little embarrassed. Twenty five teenagers from all
over Israel came to the integration (trip). At night they slept under the
desert skies, trying to get to know (those) who will be their Mechina peers
next year. By noon they started to descend on the trail towards the wadi,
that’s when Adiel saw the skies and took the camera out. The gray skies in
the horizon, friends walking out front, pictures of a journey. The photo he
took shows Shani Shamir with a bandage on her leg and Agam Levy with
a pack on her back. Just thirty seven minutes after this moment the
landscape will have changed, water will be flowing in full power and
Shani and Agam will drift away in the current. Today Gali Beleli from
Givatayim, Romi Cohen from Maor village and Adi Ra’anan from
Mikhmoret were buried. Last night students of army preparatory programs
gathered at Rabin Square in Tel Avia, as well as in Jerusalem, to light
memorial candles and support each other. Adiel spent the weekend
surrounded by his family at home in Anatot. Despite what happened, he
still intends on being a cadet at the Mechina.
