GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT CUT OFF WHEELS*

DIAMETER Make sure the wheel diameter is what’s stated, common to be undersized

There will be significant cost and performance difference based on how reinforcement is structured.
        REINFORCEMENT Internal, external or both

Cutoff wheels are unusual in that the thickness marked on the wheel may not represent the actual
THICKNESS thickness of the wheel. It’s not uncommon for a wheel marked 1/8” to measure 0.125” - 0.200” thick

APPLICATION TYPE Portable Grinders Fixed Machines: Downstrokes, Automatic Feeds, and Oscillating Heads

WHEEL IS TOO THIN WHEEL IS TOO THICK
                            • Will cut faster and produce a thinner kerf • Will cut slower and produce wider kerf
The effect of • Require less pressure and have shorter wheel • Needs more cutting pressure and have longer
inconsistent life (fewer cuts) wheel life (more cuts)
thicknesses can be: • Could result in wobble, crooked cuts and the • Generally be more stable and break resistant
                              danger of breakage
