Every direct operation is familiar with the Operation Settlement and Title Audit (OSTA) that is required every two years, but the Northwest Audit Division has added a special incentive for offices to excel on their audit. The Don Pursglove Memorial STAR Award recognizes offices in that division who achieve STAR status.
“Don Pursglove was the original auditor of Fidelity. His nickname was ‘DTA’ which stood for Don the Auditor,” remarked Liz Dantin Franklin, FNF’s Chief Audit Officer. “His career spanned 30 years with FNF in the Northwest. When Don lost his battle with cancer last year, the Executives and the Audit department wanted a way to honor him and his legacy with Fidelity.” And the Don Pursglove Memorial STAR Award was born.
It was decided that, for the first ten direct operations in the Northwest Audit Division that achieve STAR status, FNF would donate $2,500 to a charity selected by Don’s family. Two charities were selected: The Make-A-Wish foundation and the Stan Foster Memorial Golf Tournament. In order to encourage offices to hit the mark, a timeframe for the award was established. Offices in the Northwest Audit Division must become a STAR operation between May 2017 and April 2019 in order to qualify to become a Don Pursglove Memorial STAR office.
“Our escrow and administrative people did a phenomenal job over the course of last year to ensure we were in a position to earn this award,” remarked Eric Klein, President and County Manager, Chicago Title of Nevada. “We were honored to win the award in its inaugural year and were fortunate to have Roger Jewkes and John Rood here to present it to us in October.”
Making of a STAR Operation
The OSTA looks at an operation’s overall compliance with the Company’s escrow closing policies and procedures. The auditors look at how the Closing Disclosure is completed, how disbursements are handled, and what rates the operation is
charging. Operations receive a score for their overall rate compliance as well as an overall score for their audit. An operation achieves STAR status when they receive a 2% or less error rate on the overall audit and score 2% or less on the rate score.
All STAR offices receive a monetary bonus to the bottom line of their profit and loss statement based on office size. Standard sized operations receive $5,000 and large operations receive $10,000. In addition to this award, if your office is in the Northwest Audit Division (which extends from Northern California up to Washington state and all the way over to the Mississippi River), you become a Don Pursglove Memorial STAR office and FNF donates $2,500 to one of the selected charities.
“It is truly an honor and privilege for my team to be recognized by the Company,” commented Fran Baskin, Senior Vice President and County Manager, Chicago Title Alameda/ Contra Costa Counties. “It is a reflection of the talent and professionalism within our operation. We are privileged to have such a strong and devoted team that works tirelessly for both Chicago Title Alameda/Contra Costa Counties.”
Current Don Pursglove Memorial STAR Offices
So far, seven offices have achieved STAR status since May 2017 and $17,500 have been awarded to the two charities selected by Don’s family. There are only three STAR awards left to award between now and April 2019. Here is a list of all of the current award-winning STAR offices:
