would prepare differently—financially, emotionally, spiritually. I might organise my affairs more
carefully. I might simplify further. I might practice detachment more deliberately.
Yet even as I imagine holding such a crystal, I recognise the impossibility of certainty. Life is
composed of contingencies—illness, accident, technological change, shifting family dynamics,
political and environmental upheavals. The future is not a straight line waiting to be revealed; it is
a field of probabilities constantly reshaped by events beyond our control.
Perhaps, then, it is better not to know.
Uncertainty, though uncomfortable, also preserves freedom. Not knowing the future allows hope.
It allows adaptation. It keeps us attentive to the present rather than imprisoned by a forecast.
If a crystal could tell me everything, I might ultimately choose to ask nothing at all.
For maybe the most meaningful way to live is not to know the script in advance, but to walk into
the unfolding scene—aware of our choiceless beginnings, mindful of our fragile endings, and
attentive to the dignity with which we inhabit the time in between.
