                 orn in Óbidos on 1604. He

           the first Portuguese painter exhib-
           ited at the Louvre museum in Paris.
           He was educated in Sevilha where
           he followed a military career. He
           married and had a daughter, Jose-
           fa, who later became a painter that
           Raquel will talk about.


           It was in Sevilha that Baltazar got
           into contact with other artists such
           as Francisco de Zurbarain and Juan
           del Castillo. Later he worked as a
           painter and masterpiece judge in
           Bragança‘s house under the court of
           King D. João IV and King D. Afonso
           VI. He died in Óbidos in 1674.
