Young trumpet player
Arnetta Johnson (or as she
calls herself “that trumpet
chic”) is getting quite a bit
of attention at 25. She was
named by NPR as one of
“20 artists to watch in
2019.” Most of the world
has already seen her
perform as she was
booked to join Beyoncé for
several tours, not to
mention her appearance
at Super Bowl XLIX.

But Arnetta takes pride in her
appearances with notable jazz
artists like Tia Fuller, Esperanza
Spalding, Christian McBride,
and many others. The way she
runs her group and has the
combo layer the music is
something to see (and hear)!
She’s a laid-back but
commanding front person,
directing the group to change
direction as she shouts
commands or even by using
hand gestures. She’s
demonstrated her ability to
move between pop and hip
hop, but always has her root in
jazz. The debut album of
