Being born Greek, his performance at the Acropolis was the most personal and memorable
for him, which is why he choose to celebrate the anniversary by not only highlighting the
music, but the musicians (other than himself) who helped make it happen. The anniversary
tour introduces each band member and then highlights their amazing abilities on their
chosen instruments.
His group of twelve musicians have been with him from the start, and you could see and
feel how he truly cares for and appreciates each one of them, calling each by name and
having them perform their “take” on some of his most famous songs. There was a stellar
solo performance by cellist Alexander Zhirof, who played more like the love child of
Eddie Van Halen and Jimmy Hendrix. Even Yanni himself mentioned that Alexander
does things with a cello that should be impossible.
