Then there was the performance of “Nightingale” by vocalist Lauren Jelencovich, who hit notes
so high that she made Mariah Carey sound like Barry White. Yanni’s inspiration for the song
came from his time spent writing in Italy, when the songbirds would come by his window in
the evenings. He told the audience he wondered if he could ever find someone who could
consistently hit notes that high over the course of a song. Lauren’s performance certainly
demonstrated that there is.
The night encompassed a variety of emotions amongst the crowd, as people recognized familiar
songs. Some smiled, some cried, and many got up and danced in their seats during the up-
tempo numbers. It was truly both a memorable and remarkable night for everyone in
attendance.
