Sold Out! It was a good day on
Saturday (9/11/21) when Ice Cube
traveled to The Old Pueblo (Tucson) to
perform a show. The hip-hop/gangsta
rap legend performed his old hits and
some of his newer songs to a sold out,
packed crowd in his first return since
2018. It was definitely a throwback
night for the OG generation. And in
front of a diverse crowd of several
thousand Arizona fans, they watched
the icon rapper, movie star, director,
producer, and basketball league owner
Ice Cube return to his roots on the at
AVA Amphitheater stage with the
energy that has him crowned as one of
the kings of the hip-hop genre.
Ice Cube first rose to fame in the late 1980s
when his hip-hop group N.W.A. released
the triple-platinum album “Straight Outta
Compton.” Ice Cube is known to have
changed the face of hip-hop/rap forever
both as a member of Compton’s own
N.W.A and as a solo artist.
AVA concertgoers got to experience
both eras of Ice Cube’s discography
Saturday night as he played “Check
Yo’ Self,” “Straight Outta Compton,”
and “It Was a Good Day.” At the start
of the show, Ice Cube introduced
himself and then went on to remind
everyone “We started doing this shit in
1983. We had to do it our way to
breakthrough. After 30 years of this
shit, Tucson, I ain’t got too much
bullshit on this stage to clutter it up.
This is how we started. Allow me to
introduce myself.”
