Right before Third World came on stage, the
air began to waft with that familiar ‘oregano’
smell. Although the venue was only half filled,
the show went on! The original singer of Third
World, Bunny Rugs, passed away in 2014,
following a battle with cancer. While most of
the band's previous members have simply
moved on, Rugs' voice and charisma were a
big draw for Third World during its prime,
when it scored singles like "Now That We've
Found Love" and "Try Jah Love." The others
left the band to pursue other projects.
The band was fun, and I didn’t remember any
of their songs until they started playing them.
That’s when I would say, “Oh, yeah, I
remember!” These guys have been
performing since 1973. Guitarist/singer Cat
Coore was fabulous -- not only singing and
playing the guitar, but at one point, he sat and
played the electric cello. Incredible!
