After a 15-minute intermission, it was Charlie Daniels and
his band’s turn to take the stage. Charlie played his heart
out to a nearly sold-out crowd at AVA Amphitheater!
During his performance, Charlie covered Johnny Cash’s
“Folsom Prison Blues,” which he followed with his own
rendition of “How Great Thou Art.” However, he is best
known for his number one country hit "The Devil Went Down
to Georgia.” Of course, he ended his show with that iconic
song.
Towards the later part of his set, Charlie performed sitting
down and definitely looked a tad tired. However, at 82 years
and 10 months of age, I guess he’s entitled to be a little
tuckered.
Daniels, who has been active as a singer and a musician
since the 1950s, was inducted into the Cheyenne Frontier
Days Hall of Fame (2002), The Grand Ole Opry
(2008), the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum
(2009), and the Country Music Hall of Fame (2016).
The show was such fun with Tucson marking the last stop
of the Outlaws & Renegades Tour. After a most memorable
evening of music with Tritt and Daniels…one can only hope
for a return to Tucson next year!
