Settlement of Piles According to
    Egyptian code of practice

 Elastic compression

  • Se = (Qb + Qf) * (L / AEp)

    •  = 0.33 to 0.67 according to stress distribution along pile’s shaft

Settlement due to Bearing Load Qb

  • Spp = (Cb Qb) / (d. q)
  • q= ultimate end-bearing stress
  • d= pile diameter
  • Cb = factor depends on method of construction

     and soil type

Cb Values for settlement of single pile

Soil type Displacement piles Bored piles
                                         0.09 to 0.18
Dense to loose sand 0.02 to 0.04

Hard to very soft clay 0.02 to 0.03 0.03 to 0.06

Dense to loose silt 0.03 to 0.05 0.09 to 0.12

Settlement due to Friction load Qf

• Sps = (Cs Qf ) / (Lo * q)

• Cs = (0.93 + 0.16 ((Lo/d))

Total settlement of single pile:

So = Se + Spp + Sps
Lo = embedded length of pile

L = total length of pile
