The Recognition of the Sovereignty of the

Republic of Indonesia (RIS) was the

culmination of Indonesia's diplomatic

struggle. After a long and tiring Round

Table Conference (RTC), the Netherlands

finally recognized the sovereignty of the

RIS on 27 December 1949. The RTC which

took place in The Hague resulted in an

important agreement, namely the transfer

of sovereignty from the Netherlands to

the RIS. Although in the form of a
