At the end of World War II, Allied
forces, led by Lt. General Phillip
Christison, landed in Indonesia with
the mission of disarming the Japanese
army and evacuating prisoners of war.
However, as the Allies only recognized
Dutch sovereignty, there were
frequent clashes between Allied forces
and Indonesian fighters. Indonesia and

Indonesia was responsible for the
evacuation of Japanese POWs from the
