THE GIFT TO THE UNIVERSITY

The City of Chess Groningen Foundation is proud and very grateful for the
support troughout the years given by the Municipality Board and the State
University Groningen that helped us to keep the traditional Chess Festival
alive. The tournament has a strong reputation, both nationally and inter-
nationally for the participation of talented young players.
The 400 year Jubilee of the Groningen University gives us an excellent
opportunity to show our gratitude for the longstanding
support.
This special year a crowd funding activity resulted in the
making of a piece of art that represents the connectivity of the
University and the City, with a clear wink to chess. It is a
present to the University celebrating its year of birth: a bronze
statue.
The pictures below show the artist at work and the final result.

This initiative has been made possible by a number of anonymous gifts and the
persons and institutions named below. We express our deepest thanks to all for
contributing to the original piece of art that enriches Groningen.
