The summer of Mahìngan’s second year was very
hot and dry. One especially hot day Mahìngan was
playing with his cub siblings outside of the den when he
heard the birds overhead calling, “Fire! Fire! Fire!”.
Mahìngan didn’t know what this meant and watched
as his family all ran out of the den and picked up a cub.
Suddenly the forest was full of animals rushing around
and grabbing their young.
The wolf looked around in shock “What is ‘fire’?
What is going on?” he asked but everyone was in too
much of a hurry and did not answer.
