In addition, Snowbird has shared the RIDE assets with
other resorts in both Little and Big Cottonwood canyons,
creating a cohesive, recognizable program whose incentives
can be customized for individual areas.
As with any new program also come lessons on how
to improve it for the next year, Arens said. Among them:
simplifying the program to make it less labor intensive for
resort staff, exploring additional incentives, and working
with UTA to create more convenient and frequent bus
stops in Salt Lake City to increase ridership. Other goals
include facilitating carpool meet-ups at specific park-and-
ride lots, and possibly supporting a smartphone app for
carpoolers to connect.
Arens also aims to extend a version of the RIDE
program to summer visitors. Most of all, she and her team
want to keep RIDE simple and positive in order to make
it easy for guests and employees to get to the mountains
without getting into their cars.
“We have a beautiful environment up at Snowbird, and
RIDE is one way to protect that,” Arens said. “It’s a long-
term initiative that we’re going to improve upon every year.” Courtesy Snowbird Resort
