Atypical Steroidal Alkaloid (Veratramine)
(C-nor, D-homo Steroidal Structure)
II)- The second type:
Include ester alkaloids derived from highly hydroxylated alkamines of
atypical C-Nor D-homo steroidal ring system. The hydroxyl groups of the basic
alkamine structure are esterified by one to four molecules of the organic acid.
Acetic, -methylbuteric, angelic, tiglic, vanillic and veratric.
Examples of ester alkaloids of the second type are protoveratrine A&B, cevadine,
cevacine and veratridine. The alkaloid protoveratrine A is the 3,6,7,15 tetraester of
the alkamine protoverine.
