Theoretical concepts
The chromatographic system can be considered as a number of
distribution systems (theoretical plates, TP), placed on top of one
another.
Each theoretical plate consists of a mobile phase and a stationary
phase
Each TP occupies a portion of the chromatographic column or
plate length, called height equivalent to theoretical plate (HETP)
The number of theoretical plate (N) is a measure of the
efficiency of a chromatographic system.
it indicates the ability of a system to provide narrow bands or
spots.
N = L / HETP
