Type (2) Diabetes…
• It accounts for more than 85% of diabetics. Most type 2 diabetic
patients are overweight, and most are diagnosed as adults.
• The genetic influence in type 2 diabetes is greater than that
seen with type 1.
• Other risk factors include: History of diabetes in parents or
siblings, Obesity (especially of upper body), Physical inactivity,
Race/ethnicity, Women:history of gestational diabetes, polycystic
ovary syndrome, delivered baby with birth weight > 9 pounds or
Patients with hypertension; HDL cholesterol < 35 mg/dL, and/or
triglyceride level > 250 mg/dl.
