Powdered Fennel :
It is yellowish-brown to greenish-brown, characterized micro-
scopically by :
1- Fragments of epicarp cells, polygonal with smooth cuticle and
anomocytic stomata.
2- Fragments of the endocarp composed of thin-walled cells in a parquet-
arrangement.
3- Numerous fragments of yellowish brown vittae composed of thin-
walled polygonal secretory cells.
4- Lignified reticulate parenchyma of the mesocarp composed of thin-
walled lignified cells having oval pits.
5- Fragments of endosperm showing micro-rosette crystals of Ca Ox.,
fixed oil globules and aleurone grains.
Constitutes :
1- Fennel contains 2-6% essential oil mainly consists of anethole (50-
82%), and fenchone (6-27%).
2- Flavonoids, fixed oil, proteins.
