Bufotenine is an indole amine alkaloid. It is found in the skin of some species
of toads, in mushrooms, higher plants and mammals. The name bufotenine
originates from the Bufo genus of toads, which includes several species of
psychoactive toads that secrete bufotoxins from their parotid glands. Bufotenine is
similar in its chemical structure to hallucinogen psilocin (5-hydroxyl-dimethyl-
tryptamine).
