Glycosides may by classified into primary glycosides and secondary
glycosides according to the nature of the glycosides:

(i) Primary glycosides:
Primary glycosides are the unchanged form of glycosides which

occur naturally in fresh plant and not the product of any stage of hydrolysis
of glycosides.

(ii) Secondary glycosides:
Secondary glycosides are those glycosides which result from the

hydrolysis of other glycosides (i.e. primary glycosides) usually by
enzymatic hydrolysis.
Glycosides are classified into different groups according it the chemical
nature of the aglycone.
