 Dried herbs are particularly liable to be
   contaminated with their spores, which are
   alwayspresentintheair.

 Itisgenerallyacceptedthatthe viablecount
   permissibleforcrudedrugsshouldbe
   thesameasthatforthefoodstuff .

 The effect produced by bacteria is not
   alwaysvisible withtheexceptionofsome
   chromogenicspeciesofbacteria,whichmay
   produceredpatchesinstarchymaterials.

 However,thepresenceofmouldsis quickly
   evidentbythecharacteristicsmelland
   the mass of hyphae which bind the
   particlesofthedrug.
