5-renal biopsy
Lab findings
• Rising creatinine and urea
• Rising potassium
• Decreasing Hb
• Acidosis
• Hyponatraemia
• Hypocalcaemia
• Hyperphosphatediemia
Treatment of CRF
• Restriction of fluid, Na, protein diet and use diuretics
• Oral ion exchange resin, Mg salt, Ca replacement therapy, Bicarbonate
• Iron supplements, blood, erythropoietin
• Control Diabetes and blood pressure
• Dialysis –after all other methods have failed
3-End stage renal failure
Treatment of end stage renal failure
1-Dialysis
The principle of dialysis is that the patient blood and dialysis solution are placed on opposing
across which exchange of metabolites occur sides of semi permeable membrane.
Types
• Haemodialysis
• Peritoneal dialysis (in certain cases) e.g edema, CHF, liver disease
