1) Ion channel receptors:
Also called Ligand-gated ion channels or ionotropic receptors, they are a
group of transmembrane ion-channel proteins that have the ability to
change shape and open allowing ions (Na+, K+, Ca2+, and/or Cl−) to pass
through the membrane in response to the binding of a chemical
messenger (i.e. a ligand), such as a neurotransmitter, then the channel
closes when the ligand is removed.
Ex: nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR), GABA receptors
