Pi3k/AKT signaling pathway:
The PI3K signaling pathway is an example of enzyme linked receptors
that can be activated by epidermal growth factor receptors (EGF
receptors) and insulin like growth factor receptor 1 (IGF-1 receptors)
leading to dimerization, autophosphorylation and activation of the
receptor. Upon the activation of receptor tyrosine kinase, recruitment of
PI3K to the plasma membrane occurs.
The activated PI3K phosphorylates the phosphatidyl-inositol
bisphosphate (PIP2), to generate phosphatidyl-inositol trisphosphate
(PIP3), a critical phospholipid second messenger
