Cascara powder :

It is yellowish-brown to olive brown; with faint odour and persistent
bitter taste.

It is characterized microscopically by :

1- Numerous fragments of lignified bast fibres (phloem-fibres) in
   groups, accompanied with crystal-sheath.

2- Sclereids in groups sometimes isolated, lignified with very narrow
   lumen accompanied by crystal sheath.

3- Fragments of yellowish-brown cork cells with reddish brown content.
4- Numerous crystals of calcium oxalate, clusters and prisms.
