Podophyllotoxin

• Podophyllotoxin (abbreviated as PPT), known as podofilox,
   is a toxin lignan extracted from the roots and rhizomes of
   Podophyllum species.

• P. peltatum and P. hexandrum (Berberidaceae).
• Etoposide and teniposide are semi-synthetic prototype of

   Podophyllotoxin

• Etoposide and teniposide both have a polar
  modified sugar unit introduced into the molecule
  of podophyllotoxin. (glycosides of podophyllotoxin)
