• It was soon demonstrated that this novel route (non-mevalonate)
to IPP was also operative in the formation of monoterpenes,
diterpenes and carotenoids.
• Evidence accumulating indicates a cooperative involvement of
both pathways in biosynthesis of plant isoprenoids.
