➢The non-mevalonate pathway for
 the biosynthesis of IPP and DMAPP
 was established recently.

➢ It is essential in plants, many
 eubacteria (e.g. Escherichia coli
 and Mycobacterium tuberculosis)
 and apicomplexan parasites (e.g.
 malaria protozoan Plasmodium
 falciparum).
