   IUPAC Nomenclature of Alkynes

  • Start with the parent alkane name corresponding to the
     carbon chain containing the triple bond and replace the suffix –
     ane with the suffix –yne.

  • The triple bond location is indicated by assigning its lowest
     possible carbon number.

  • If substituents are present, they are given the lowest numbers
     possible and multiple substituents are arranged alphabetically.
