Characteristics of Osmotically controlled S
• The drug is surrounded by semipermeable membrane and the
release is controlled by osmotic pressure
• Zero order release is possible
• Reformulation is not required for different drugs.
• More expensive than conventional counterparts
• More extensive quality control testing.
• Examples of osmotc controlled devices:
– Verapamil HCl tablets
– Glipizide tablets
– Potassium chloride tablets
