• Surface hydrophilicity

– Coating the carrier with hydrophilic polymer reduces
opsonin adsorption.

– PEG coating is commonly used (PEGylation):
– Highly hydrated, sterically inhibit hydrophobic &

eletrostatic interactions with various opsonins (steric
stabilization) & also shields the surface charge of
charged particles.
