Uses:
- Locally camphor is weakly antiseptic, mildly anesthetic, and rubefacient
when rubbed on the skin.
- Camphorated Opium tincture (Paregoric has just 0.4 mg/mL of
morphine); This medication known for its antidiarrheal and analgesic
properties.

                   Determination of aldehydes and ketones:
1. The bisulphite method:

A measured quantity of the oil is shaken with hot aq. solution of sodium
bisulphite, a water-soluble additive compound is formed. the non-
aldehyde portion of the oil separates as an oily layer, which can be
measured using cassia flask.

2. The neutral sulphite method:

In this method sodium hydroxide is liberated and it must be neutralized
with acid to permit the reaction to go completion. This method is
specifically of importance for the determination of carvone in spearmint,
dill and caraway oils.

Those volatile oils which contain aldehydes in very small amounts,
or which contain other constituents that from water-soluble addition
products with sodium sulfite and bisulfite cannot be assayed
accurately by these methods. In those cases, aldehydes and
ketones are generally determined by the hydroxylamine method.

3. The hydroxylamine hydrochloride method:

This method based on reaction of the aldehydes and ketones with
hydroxylamine HCl giving the oxime with liberation of HCI equivalent to
the aldehyde or ketone content. The liberated HCl could be titrated
against alkali.
