The process to form the 27 carbon
compound of cholesterol occurs primarily
in 4 main stages.
Stage 1: Synthesis of mevalonate from
acetate
1- Two molecules of acetyl-CoA condense,
forming acetoacetyl-CoA

Generally takes place in the endoplasmic reticulum
of hepatic cells!
