felt like gold coins. They looked like royal Muslims who had come to
pay the land revenue to Massa.

The guards looked at them and allowed them to enter the Darbar

Sahib. They went inside with their sacks and saw Massa Ranghar. He
was seated on a cot, smoking a hookah. He was drunk. Some girls

were dancing. The sight made their blood boil with anger. Bhai Sukha

Singh stood watch near the door. Bhai Mehtab Singh went in and fell
on Massa like lightning. With one stroke of his sword he cut off

Massa's head. It was in August 1740.

Massa's companions were shocked. They ran away in terror. Bhai
Sukha Singh and Mehtab Singh escaped. Zakaria Khan heard of

Massa Ranghar's death. He was enraged. He ordered to catch and

bring him the killers of Massa.

They were not found for many years. In 1745, Bhai Mehtab Singh

came to his village to see his family. Someone informed the local

Muslim leader that he was there. Bhai Mehtab Singh was captured,
chained, and taken to Lahore. There he was given the chance to

choose between Islam and death. He refused to give up his faith and

               chose death.

Bhai Mehtab Singh was publicly broken on the 'wheel'. The 'wheel'

was an ancient torture device. Bhai Mehtab Singh remained calm

               until his death.

Bhai Sukha Singh had joined Jassa Singh Ahluwalia. There was a
skirmish with the forces of Jaspat Rai in Eminabad. Jaspat Rai was

killed in this battle and Lakhpat Rai, his brother, swore revenge

against all Sikhs. Lakhpat Rai and his army attacked Bhai Sukha
Singh and other Sikhs at Kahnuvan village where Chhota Ghallughara

happened on May 1, 1746. Bhai Sukha Singh was injured in the battle
but he escaped with few Sikhs. But in January 1752, Ahmad Shah

Durani’s army and Bhai Sukha Singh and few Sikhs came face to
