Vaisakhi Celebration
Vaisakhi holds great significance for Sikhs as it is the day Guru Gobind Singh Ji
gave us our distinct external identity and united us as Singhs and Kaurs. We
recommend dedicating the entire class to the celebration of Vaisakhi.
A. Begin the class with circle time, share the story of Vaisakhi with the class.
Follow the discussion points below to familiarize the students with the main
concepts of Vaisakhi.
B. The students will be creating 2 very special Vaisakhi crafts:
• The first is a collage to help them understand the meaning of Singh and Kaur
by identifying attributes associated with the names; and
• A second craft involves creating the batta of amrit that Guru Ji made using
his Khanda kirpan, reconnecting them to the story of Vaisakhi.
C. In honor of Vaisakhi, we suggest that students prepare and perform the
following shabads and songs, either for their peers or the Gurdwara sangat:
• Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Song
• Sat Nam Ji Song
• Nishan Sahib Song
• We are the Khalsa
