Story of Vaisakhi:
On a very special day in 1699, Guru Gobind Singh Ji wanted to bring light to the
world.
Guru Ji called together many different people near his home in Anandpur. There
were farmers, shopkeepers, yogis, Hindus, Muslims, singers, warriors, mothers,
and children.
Guru Ji had a test to see who would be brave and strong. He asked, "Who will
give the gift of their head?" It might sound scary, but it was a special test.
A kind man named Daya bravely said, "Guru Ji, my head is yours." Guru Ji took
him inside a tent.
Guru Ji asked again, "Who will give the gift of their head?" Another brave man,
Dharam Chand, offered his head too.
This happened three more times. Himmat, Mokam, and Sahib, all full of love for
Guru Ji, offered their heads.
The crowd was waiting to see what would happen next. Finally, Guru Ji emerged
from the tent with Daya, Dharam, Himmat, Mokam and Sahib following behind.
Guru Ji had a special ceremony. He stirred water in a batta with his kirpan while
saying baani. The water turned into amrit. Then he sprinkled the amrit on the
heads of these brave men.
Something magical happened! They became the first members of the Khalsa,
special and brave 5 Piyarre. Guru Ji gave them a new last name - Singh, which
means lion.
After that, Guru Ji asked them to give him the same special amrit. They did, and
Guru Ji also became a Singh.
From that day on, the Khalsa was born. Guru Ji gave them special teachings to
be strong, kind, and fearless.
The Khalsa is like a big family that follows Guru Ji's teachings. They are brave
and full of love. And on Vaisakhi, we celebrate this special day when the Khalsa
was created.
