K - Khanda Collage Craft
A. The Khanda consists of 4 parts. Hold up the picture of the Khanda, point out
each of the 4 parts, and explain the significance of each (refer to the Khanda
sheet).
B. Engage the children in an exercise. Ask them to stand up and use their arms
to mimic the different parts of the Khanda.
• Chakkar - make a circle by connecting your hands above your head.
• Khanda - join your hands and straighten your arms above your head to form
a straight line.
• Miri/Piri - repeat the action done for chakkar, but this time, open your arms
slightly to create a space.
C. For the craft activity, guide students to cut out the 4 parts of the Khanda and
glue them in the correct orientation on a separate sheet of paper. Ensure they
also attach the labels provided for each part.
D. Once the children are done with the craft, introduce the song “We are the
Khalsa”. Since the students learned about the Sikh identity and the 5 kakaars
in the previous lesson, you may connect the meaning of Khalsa and identity
in this lesson. It is also well presented in the song. For guidance, refer to the
YouTube video titled 'We are the Khalsa.' https://www.youtube.com/watch?
