g - Gurdwara Sahib Scavenger Hunt

g is a fun akhar as many important things in Sikhi start with g!

            A. Begin the discussion by asking students to identify things at the Gurdwara
                Sahib that start with g.

            B. Show them the Gurdwara sheet, which includes a large g and an image of
the Gurdwara. Perform a cupboard fold so that the outline of the Gurdwara
                matches up.

            C. Begin by saying that Gurdwara begins with g. Open the flaps and ask the
children to name all the other things they see that begins with g. For
                example:

                   • Gurdwara - house of the Guru
                   • Guru Granth Sahib Ji - our present Guru ji
                   • Granthi - helps take care of the gurdwaras
                   • Gutka - contains Nitnem, we do patth by reading from it

                   • Golak - where we place money when we matha tek
                   • Guru - teacher
                   • Guru Gobind Singh Ji - our 10th Guru ji.

            D. Once the students have completed their class work, distribute a scavenger
hunt sheet and crayon to each child. Take them on a scavenger hunt inside
the Main Hall of the Gurdwara Sahib to find all the items discussed above.

            Materials:
               - Photocopy of all sheets (provided in student handbook)
               - Crayons

            Method:
               1. For the Gurdwara sheet, perform a cupboard fold allowing the outline of
                    the Gurdwara to match up.
               2. Students may color the Gurdwara sheet either during class or for
                    homework.
               3. Take the children on the scavenger hunt as described above. Point out

each one and ask students to check off each item as they find it.
