BSA AGM 2023

                   Training

                 a During a round-table discussion, it was
agreed that creating the BSA as the
                   premier barista training organisation for
t both BSA City & Guilds VRQ and BSA
Level 1 courses was a major benefit.
s However, it is important to recognise the
                   challenges of candidates committing

i three days for VRQ. This situation has
seen a downturn in candidate numbers
                 r attending the VRQ course.

The BSA Level 1 has seen an upturn in
a candidate numbers and the BSA will be
adapting with Level 1 courses crafted for
the current market. The Association has
B 11 Approved Training Centres ready to
adapt for all types of barista courses.

         What do BSA Members' need?

It was agreed that the Association should grow in strength, voice and relevance.

From the discussions, it was unanimous that the eMagazine Something's Brewing was bringing a
new dimension with relevant, informative, and industry-leading information.

Steve Slark, Chairman is working with other trade associations to boost readership and he also sits
on external industry panels assisting in the representation of the BSA at all levels.

Along with many other trade associations, the BSA has seen a decline in membership. However,
there have been renewals in the last few months from lapsed businesses. To exploit the BSA's new
dynamism Angus McKenzie & Roger Whitehouse have put a structure together for a membership
         recruitment drive from August 2023.

Further plans include Executive Committee and networking meetings with BSA members around the
country. This year has already seen visits to Qualitasse in Basingstoke and, Fracino in Birmingham.
The next planned meeting is at the new offices of Espresso Solutions in Sussex. JULY/AUGUST. 2023 | ISSUE 31

Also, the BSA is curating a pavilion at Caffe Culture offering a low-cost presence for members. There
are still spaces available and any member wishing to be involved should contact Steve Slark.

Plans are under review for low-cost pop-up shows in 2024.
Dates have also been confirmed for the next EC meeting and for the rest of 2023.
