Editor’s
Welcome
Welcome to the first edition of the BSA’s
eMagazine Something’s Brewing for 2024.
It was with deep sadness that I learned of the
death of Ranald Paterson in early December
2023. I first met Ranald at the inaugural
meeting of the Beverage Service Association
established in 1996. At that time, I did not
realise what a profound effect Ranald would
have on my life in the hot beverage industry.
Ranald played a very big part in ensuring the
Beverage Service Association and soon-to-be
Beverage Standards Association worked
professionally and diligently to improve the
quality of hot beverages served across cafes,
restaurants, and other out-of-home businesses
in the UK.
It is very important to remember that without
Ranald the Association would not have the BSA
City & Guilds Approved training centres across
the UK and the Beverage Standards Awards
which ran for over 10 years.
For me, I could turn to Ranald for guidance, They are joined by Jaguar Espresso Systems
