                  Prologue
                        Something’s Brewing is delighted
                       that Liam Worsley, Sustainability
Manager at Cafeology Ltd, a coffee
                       company based in Sheffield, UK
has agreed to us serialising his
origin trip in February 2023 where
he visited one of there long-
                       standing coffee producer partners
                       in Costa Rica.

During his stay, he lived on the
farm, worked on the farm, and
                       tried to absorb as much

                       information as physically possible.

                        Liam’s origin trip was two-fold.
First was to document his trip but
                       most importantly to provide a
case study for coffee farming in
                       Costa Rica – specifically the
                       farming practices of Roberto
Mata, and his family, located in
the Dota valley of the Tarrazú
                       region.

He aims to shed light on issues
that Roberto’s farm faces, many of
                       which are related to climate
change, where his expertise as a

educational as possible. His aim for this article is for it to be read and
understood by coffee professionals, and those
As well, he hopes the reader will with basic coffee knowledge, as well as coffee
feel inspired by some of the novices too. The latter is especially important, as JANUARY/FEBRUARY. 2024 | ISSUE 34
