CHRIST-KING CATHOLIC SCHOOL
OBSERVATIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
School Site
• The site is generally in good condition and • no significant causes for concern have been reported. Perform preventative maintenance
and repairs as necessary.
• The gazebo located in the school’s courtyard
is need of repainting.
Recommendation: Repaint the gazebo (life cycle replacement; moderate priority) 5.7 •
Programmatic and Functional Assessment •
• The school is generally able to accommodate
the current enrollments, but may require additional instructional area if enrollments increase or a high school program is added. In particular, junior high classes will require more instructional area if enrollments increase past the point of being able to combine classes.
• A former administration space has been turned into a classroom, but is becoming too small
to be a functional learning space as class sizes have increased. A likely solution is to expand the classroom into the entrance area to become a more regular shape. Recommendation: Renovate and
expand the classroom to provide a more appropriate and better functioning learning space. (Program functional upgrade; high priority) 5.8
• The gym change rooms are undersized for the class-sizes that use them. This also affects the ability of the school to host visiting sports teams and tournaments.
Recommendation: Evaluate the possibility of expanding the change rooms (program
functional upgrade; low priority)
The front office reception is ill-configured to supervise the front entrance of the school which is a safety consideration. Recommendation: Assess possible solutions to increase mechanical or natural surveillance in the front office (program functional upgrade; moderate priority) 5.9 There are no concerns relating to circulation or code compliance at the school.
For the current grade structure and enrollments, the school has appropriate learning spaces and access to rated capacities. The school benefits from the jurisdiction’s mobile CTS trailer and its library and maker-space are well used.
