All are sweet tasting (but the relative sweetness varies)
Water Soluble (because of the numerous OH groups
that readily engage in hydrogen bonding with water.)
Insoluble in organic solvents
Pentose ; Xylose, Ribose

Sugar alcohol ; Sorbitol, Manitol, Xylitol
